Steps to Follow

  1. Stay calm and do not argue or force.
  2. Check if this is time-critical or routine medication.
  3. Explain simply (if appropriate) what the medication is for.
  4. Offer alternatives (time, water, position) only if policy allows.
  5. Read the care plan / medication plan.
  6. Contact RN / on-call / supervisor if required.
  7. Document in the official chart/system.
